Capital Punishment is a good thing right? Is it worth the risk of more people dieing in the world because of one persons mistake?

Ok, I know that some innocent person could die, but people have to have all of the evidence and 9 times out of 10 the person is guilty of the crime.

It's a real sign of a civilized nation. Countries which allow capital punishment include: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Chad, China, Cuba, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Sudan, Syria, and the US.

But seriously, I believe that the best argument against it is this: "rather that 20 guilty persons should escape the punishment of death, than that one innocent person should be condemned, and suffer capitally." -- John Fortescue, the Lord Chief Justice of England circa 1463.

You wrote that 9 times out of 10 the person is guilty of the crime. That may be so, but what about the 1 of 10 that can be executed for a crime they did not commit. I do not think think this is tolerable.

You should know that DNA evidence exists in less than 10% of all murder cases, and that it is not a guarantee that we will not execute an innocent person.

If you are inclined to believe in god, you will also have to believe that we have no right to determine when one should live or die.

That aside since god has no place in politics. Capital punishment should remain outlawed in Canada. It is a barbaric practice to bring about the ultimate vengeance on those who have wronged. People are not perfect, nor is the criminal justice system, so yes people will be falsely arrested, convicted and even executed. No man or woman has the right to take the life of another.

no, that would be moving backwards as a society. and i don't believe the only reason it was abolished was the risk of sentencing an innocent to death. thought it may have been part of it.

How can we as a society condemn murder, but allow our government to do the exact same act (murder in the name of the law) and condone it as a society? It goes beyond logical reasoning. The typical response to this question is based in emotional reaction rather than logical reasoning.

YES!
If someone does something to win a ticket to ride the lightning, by all means, let them. (For those who don't know, "ride the lightning" is a term used to refer to the act of execution in the electric chair.)
