I'm due in 16 days with my first baby, and the last few days I've been having sharp, stabbing pains in my pelvis and what feels like my cervix. There is a constant dull ache, but occasionally I get the stabbing pains, and when they come, I get a lot of them and then it goes away again. It feels like she's trying to claw her way out. Is it just the pressure from the baby's head (she's dropped already)? Or am I dilating (fingers crossed)? I'm going to the doctor on Monday, and obviously I will ask then. I'm not having any contractions or leaking fluid or any other signs of labor, so I don't think it's too urgent, I was just wondering what other moms thought! Thanks!

Hi and congrats! Just wanted you to know that you are not alone. I'm 36 weeks and I've been having those same stabbing or shooting pains throughout my abdomen and vaginal area and that my doula and Dr. both say that it is most likely muscle pains from the weight of my big belly and baby pushing further downward than labor. Rest, rest, rest and drink plenty of water. Labor pains will be more of a menstrual cramp that begins in the back and wraps around to the front. I have yet to feel that but am anxious to start! Does that sound weird?? Hope this helps!

I'm due in 14 days and I'm having the same thing. Lots of twings and pains but nothing regular. I think it's just the baby getting into position and the fact that the baby is very heavy now and every movement is uncomfortable.
Not long to go now for us. Good luck!

It is not uncommon to have pains in the weeks ahead of delivery. They are called braxton Hicks contractions. The way to tell that it is not labor is to time the pains. If they are coming at regular intervals, it's likely labor. If the pains are inconsistent, it's likely Braxton Hicks. Before delivering both my children I had a lot of Braxton Hicks. If they are too much to bear, I would call your doctor. They might want to see you earlier to rule out any problems. I know these things can be scary. Try to think positive. Don't let anyone tell you horror story's. A calm mother has an easier delivery. :)

I get those with each of my pregnancies. I have been told ligament pain. I think the pain in your cervix is probably pressure from the baby.
