I'm having significant difficulty understanding why Imus's comment about the basketball team is in controversy. Clearly racism should not be tolerated but I am not convinced those comments were racist. Here is the basis for my confusion - 1. Imus says similar things about all people at almost any time you would listen to his show. He does it for comedic effect (not that I'm saying his remarks were funny but I am also not a fan of his show because of his "comedy"). 2. I found the remarks to be far more sexist than racist. 3. Have you listed to a good rap song lately or any song by Snoop Dogg? These lyrics are about as racist as you can get.

My opinion is that while his remarks were disgusting, it was a far cry from being as extreme as our entertainment culture is today. I believe that people need to get less sensitive about what people say like that unless of course it is an employer or other authority figure. But, no one should allow anyone to control your self worth by

A large portion of society are afraid to speak about truth and call things like they are. There should be no difference in a white man making a satement and a black saying the same. Much of the reason so many blacks have taken offense to this is because it makes them aware of how little respect they have demanded of the own race. No respect for yourself = no respect from others. There can be no double standard.

I heard that the real problem is that people wanted to start taking issue with the racism that can be found on often on talk radio.

Imus was just the lucky winner of saying something just when people where looking for it.

2. Yes the remark was sexist and I think that is something people should really look at more.

But throwing nappy made what he said focus on race as well.

3. Which is why people have been talking against the bad side of rap for years. Also just because other people do it doesn't make it any more right.

I think part of the uproar is because of the fact that when the media make it seem OK to be racist or sexist that it helps shapes the way people act. The boss or other Authority figure may think it is OK to be racist or sexist toward someone (or be so and not even know what they are doing is wrong)

so it's not about our self worth as much as it is making sure people don't devalue others on a day to day biases

Also I think it brings up an issue of is the FCC doing it's job when the word h- can be said over the airwaves. I don't care if it Imus or Snoop H- should be a bleeped word.

I haven't listen to music radio in a long time but H- at least used to be bleeped when it was said on a song. why does Imus get a pass or did it change.

I believe if Imus used to be black, it could have blown over. I'm pondering if he could had been fired by way of NBC IF he used to be younger. My middle went out to Imus considering that you would inform he used to be real sorry for sying what he did. But I bet the 2 PREACHERS Reverend Sharpton and Reverend Jackson do not consider in Christ's educating on forgiveness. They desire vengeance they usually would possibly not give up till they manipulate the nation. It is all approximately what the Blacks desire so their emotions would possibly not be harm. Big crybabies!!!! And to these solutions that say anybody will have nappy hair is flawed. Nappy hair comes from African blood in a single's ancestry. No different race, (and there are most effective 4 races; Black, White, Yellow, Red) produces it however the black race. Let's be sincere right here.

Never listened to his program -- thought the comment was
way out of line and that there would be some s*** on it's way
for Imus. Personally (because I don't know his following) felt
that discipline from a slap on the back of the hand,to his removal
from the air. His employer has spoken, he has apologized,I'm
sorry for the young lady athletes. -- case closed, anyone been
keeping up with my Red Wings ?

I totally agree with you. The rap songs have very racist / sexist language and yet one guy uses the same language in a show and he gets canned. The black people are highly sensitive and jesse jackson is always looking for a way to start a racial war.

CBS had to fire him It's all about money and not about anyone feelings. We are so sensitized these days. It's a doggy dog world out there. Imus trying to be funny but it backfired on him.
He is not a racist he put his big foot in his mouth and now he can't get it out. Anyway he will be OK until the next fool takes over. He has plenty of friends on his side and he is well off. He doesn't have to go on food stamps. Next time anyone wanting to do the same think think before you open your caca mouth.

"Nappy" is a painful word and it takes most back to slavery days.

"Ho" is sexiest and degrading to all women. He said both in one sentence about some kids on a basketball team. They didn't ask for that. It was WRONG!

He knew better. For every action there is a reaction. It was up to CBS- they choose to fire him. Black and White people both spoke up for the team and wanted him gone.

I agree; storm in a tea cup. I hope we as a culture don't start censoring comedians.

The rappers get away with sexist comments for one reason: people spend a lot of money on those CDs. This is hypocrisy.

I agree with you. I did not like Mr. Imus's statements, but I do not necessarily think they were racist. His firing seems like a knee jerk reaction to me.
