Is it knowing how to laugh at yourself and still be responsible and enjoy life or is it being uptight, dull, dour, and judgmental with a perennial stick up your butt? Or is something more?

Foxy, Foxy, that is a million dollar question to which you will probably get a thousand and one answers.

Maturity requires a great deal of life experience(wisdom & knowledge) to get there. To learn to be responsible for your own actions, to know who you are, to understand the difference between giving and taking, to know when to react and not react, to have compassion for others, etc..etc..
Those are just a few things that have come to mind but a lot of factors are involved in learning maturity. I believe that one of the most important factors is the relationships we develop over the years. For example, if we always seen others around us want to fight when they became angry, we, if not shown a different way to handle situations, will respond in the same way. Hopefully, wisdom and knowledge has taught us that there are other ways to handling decrepancies.

Have you ever heard of the saying that, "what goes in is what comes out"? If you are around others who are mature in their behavior and think about their actions from A thru Z, before they react to situations, then I would say that, that person has been taught by someone with wisdom and knowledge and behaves in a mature manner.

So yes, there is much, much, more to being mature then saying the words. Mind you, if a person is uptight and judgemental, is that considered mature behavior? I don't think so. If they are uptight, this is the type of personality they have developed and maybe you can find out how to help them loosen up. Judgemental, who are we to judge others when none of us are considered perfect in the eyes of God?

I bet that the mature uptight, dull, dour, and judgemental person, with the perennial stick up their butt, hasn't always been that way.
See if their mature enough to tell you some of the experiences they've had in their life that have turned them into what you see and know today. Understanding is awesome, but you will have to care enough to inquire.

It is knowing how to laugh at yourself and still be responsible. It's also knowing when to act like a kid and when not to, to keep enjoying all the small wonders in life, and to be ourselves, always. Have a great day! Annie

I always wondered about the phrase "stick up your butt"
it seems that most of the girls I know who have done this are NOT uptight.

Maturity is realizing we are not ever gonna be perfect . And we need to be the best we can be, and not be hard on ourselves for enjoying life.
If I could learn to apply this, I would be doing well! Um but I don't have a stick up my bum... Youch!

Maturity is the ability to know the consequences of any actions or statements and being too old to care and young enough to do it anyway.
