how to appy self tan lotion?

is it possible to appy these lotions and it look fine. I have used jergens some and in creases like wrist and elbows it looks yucky the way it dried

remember to exfoliate well before u apply the lotion & always use it sparingly around ankles, knees, wrists & elbows...make sure to distribute the lotion evenly & rub it in thoroughly...

I've never been able to apply these lotions and have them look good. Typically, if you have a darker complexion to begin with they work well. But if you're very light in pigment, any little mistakes show up so easily & you just look like you used beige paint all over your body.
