Headache, weight gain, horrid mood swings, loss of libido, etc.
I would never ever recommend depo to anyone.

I was on it for four years and am so glad I am off of it. I am on Kariva now and have had none of the side affects I had while on depo.
Also, after five years you would need a bone density check as it royally screws with your bone health.

I've been on it for almost 6 years now. I LOVE IT!!! At first, I had a little weight gain. The change in horomones made me crave chocolate. It was my fault, I shouldn't have eaten the candy. But since then, I lost it, plus some. After the first shot, I didn't notice a difference, but my periods completely stopped after the second one. About once a year, around my January shot, I get a short, very light period. I love being on it. I love not having a period. It can take over a year to wear off. I know that when I stop taking it, I could be back to normal in a few weeks or over a year. I don't plan on getting pregnant for a long time though.

I liked it a lot. I was on it for three years. I decided to stop for a little while because of the bone loss issues with it, but my doctor said after my break from it I would be fine to go back on it. I never had any side effects. I think when I first started it I spotted for a little while but that was it, then I didn't have a period the whole time, it was great. If you plan on having kids after you get off it, just be aware that it can take up to a year to become fertile again. It took me three months. But I know that that bothers some women, not being able to just quite it real quick and become pregnant. I'm on nuvaring now which isn't too bad either. Good luck!

okay no lie.. my doctor wanted to know if i wanted the pills or the shot, and i chose the pills because one of my really good friends who is 5'4 and used to weigh like 110 got the birth control shot and in one summer she gained 150 pounds. But either she had an allergic reaction and it made her gain all that weight or the shot does make you gain that much weight, but i didnt wanna take my changes. My aunt got the shot and she's fine she didnt gain any weight. So some have good experiences and some just dont. I know it slows down your metabolism and makes you a lil moody after the first shot, but all the birth controls do.....

I was on Depo Provera for 10 years and loved it. I did not have side effects, but my Dr. told me that some women gain a little weight. Best part - totally protected and no period for 10 years!

I have for about 2 years now i love it. I did gain 10 pounds the first year and then lost it my second year. I dont have my period anymore but when i get stressed out it starts back up agian the doc said that is normal. But you only go every 3 months and you dont have to remember a pill everyday. Besides you can get your shot in the hip or arm i always get mine in the arm i would thing the hip would hurt.

The shot was fine for me..I had a bit of spotting instead of a full blown period, but other than that no side efects. My best friend took it at the same time as me, but she gained weight and said she felt dizzy . So I suppose it varies from person to person.

I was on it for 5 years off and on.
I gained about 100lbs being on it. I have been off of it for approx. 2 years now and the weight is coming off in leaps and bounds.
But I did also have some headaches.
The great thing about the whole thing was that I would not get a period. Now, that doesn't happen for everyone....but it is a possibility.

My sister went off of it finally a few months ago. She gained weight, her hair thinned out (she was also under a fair amount of stress) and she suffered from head ached and dizziness. She quit getting the shot when she and her husband decided to have children and now her GP has said it will be awhile befor she can conceive...anywhere from three months to years... Its not worth it to me. Hope this helped
