Their record is actually pretty close to the year they won the cup. To agree with everyone else they have had incredibly unpredictable goaltending which doesn't put a lot of confidence into the team and dressing room. Also their defense is very young and still learning. This is Shane O'brien's first year he is only 23. Paul Ranger this is his second year and he is only 22. Those two defensemen play a lot of minutes and of course they are going to make some mistakes, but they are huge talents and very smart players and look for them to come into their own in the next few years. They have also had very unbalanced scoring, they have had to rely on the amazing seasons that Lecavalier and St. Louis are having. Guys like Prospal, Fedotenko, Perrin and Craig they were expected to pick up some of the slack left from the absence on Modin, but have not produced anywhere close to what the staff was hoping for. A lot of factors go into why they might not have had the regular season that they are actually capable of, but they were not terrible by any means.

Bad goaltending is what happened. This team is top-heavy with scoring and no defense. That being said they are sure giving the Devils fits and I wouldn't be surprised if they win that series ... they have discovered how to beat Marty ... weird angle shots and fluke goals. Brodeur is the only reason the Devils do anything and if he doesn't bring his 'A' game every night they are in trouble. Trouble with that is that Brodeur has played pretty good and they've still lost ...

They're not horrible, nor is their record that bad (in fact, I think they're better than Atlanta, the 3rd seed). But like people said, their goaltending is questionable. In the East, only Pittsburgh has a worse goaltending situation....and in the playoffs, goaltending has THE biggest impact. Without good goaltending, you take a quick exit.

Sorry record? So Then NY Islanders, NY Rangers (only 1 point a head) and the 7 teams below them had great records? And yeah, aweful year, they didn't even make the playoff....wait a minute. Go back to NJ douche.

Duh. Have you watched them at all this year? Goaltending is the problem. They don't have one that's worth beans, and they cannot afford to get one because they have too many big stars eating up their salary cap.

That said, their record is not really that sorry. They were 7th in their conference and made the playoffs. What else do you want? The regular season doesn't mean anything anyway... not that they are going to get that far in the playoffs either!

You would be suprosed by looking at the roster wouldnt you? Lecavalier, St. Louis, Richards....

But then you look at their defense: Kuba (a wannabe offensive defenseman), O'Brien (acquired just before the deadline who added only to the amount of penalties the Lightning Served)

And the Goaltending: Holmqvist and Denis.... who are they kidding these Goalies are decent at their finest moments but without a proper Defense in front of them there are awful

They need proper goaltending Denis is a back up and so is Holmqvist so two back ups don't make a starter maybe for a few games but not a season

Well....theyre not THAT horrible, but they are bad. Its cuz of their goaltending. Like last night, holmqvist gave the puck away to gomez. That how easy goals are made in the nhl..passing it to the wrong person. Maybe if Brodys skills somehow wash over holmqvist..theyll have a chance. But that wont happen..so sorry.

i love the TBL team. Vinny, Richie, and Marty have alot of hockey skill going on. for my graduation gift in 04, i got to go there to see them play game 1 or 2 against the Flyers. it was so fun. i think they'll do good the rest of the playoffs.
