Hermione is warning the two boys they will get in trouble. The "you;'re so... but they never found out what they were" quote means that Hermione was going to call them somewthing along the lines of stuboorn, stupid, silly, etc. the dots(....) mean she did not finish her sentence because she is exasperated, so the boys have to guess what she was going to call them.

OK, I don't have my copy handy because everything is packed to move. But I will try to explain.

The elipsis (three dots in a row) at the end of the sentence indicates that the person speaking (probably Hermione, right?) was interrupted. So they never found out how the sentence would have ended had she not been interrupted. They could guess, of course, based on what she had said before that. But the author is suggesting that you should guess, because not only did they (presumably Harry and Ron) not find out, you don't find out either. So you guess.

Does this help?

"What they were..." this portion refers to the relationship in between Harry, Ron & Hermione, I think. It's indicating the power of their bond, which is going to bloom in the next books.

It's just my personal opinion, there may be other meanings

Congratulations on starting to read the potter series. I learnt most of my english through it, and learnt a whole lot of things none could have taught me.

You need to put more of the quote in your question. It is hard for me to understand what you are asking with out the full sentence. Also who is talking and whom are they talking to?

from what you have written so far: to me it sounds like one person is threatening another person about their social status. It probably has something to do with Harry being part sliterner from when He battled "you know who"or "Voldermort". When they talk about Voldermort and they call him "you know who" it can get confusing.

When they say "What they were, they'll didm't find out." It means that they ddin't find out what Hermoine was calling to call them. Sghe say's "You're so" as in saying, "you're so stupid." but she never finished what she was going to say, so they never found out what she was going to call them..

I hope this helps.. =]
