Okay, I had cold last week but I'm okay now but I can't smell very well. I'd say that I've lost about 80 percent of my smelling ability.

What could be the cause of this?

Thanks a lot!!!

There could be several reasons, but to be sure to get a responsible answer, you should see your doctor who is trained and licensed to give you proper medical advice. People on this site are not. Good luck.

Unless you put some of that zinc junk in your nose to treat the cold, it's probably just a temporary anosmia left over from the infection. If you used one of those products, there's a chance it's permanent. Yet another reason to keep things in perspective and not use drugs to treat a cold.

I've lost that before too, it's just part of the cold.
Did you notice that when you lose your sense of smell, your sense of taste goes, except for the obvious sweet, sour, salty, bitter?
Get over your cold. See a doctor if you have to. I had to go to antibiotics to get my sense of smell back.

It is probably just because you still have some type of sinus issues.

Loss of smell and taste is a sign of a zinc deficiency. If you don't see any change within the next few weeks, start taking a supplement rich in zinc.

I used not to smell too, probably due to sinusitis and/or sinusitis medicine. My sense of smell has gradually returned in the last 5 years, after my sinusitis is gone for good.
