The show is based on book smarts, are adults smarter than 5th grades? most of the time, but we have a different kind of smart. 5 th graders might know the names of all 9 planets, but they don't know how to manage money, pay bills, work 40 hours a week, handle a family, etc. I think as you get older you forget the BS things you learned in school that really don't mean anything, to make room for things you do need to know, don't get me wrong I watch the show and love it, but to say that a responsible adult isn't smarter than a 5th grader isn't true. I think it would be great if the put the 5th grade students against 5th grade teachers from different schools and see who wins.

I'm quite sure I'm smarter than an average 5th grader, and I'm positive I'm smarter than a dumb 5th grader- it's those pesky SMART 5th graders I don't think I could take...

I watched that show and cannot confidently say I am smarter than a 5th grader (and I am a law school graduate). It is more than a little humbling.

I'm smarter than a fifth grader. In fact, I'm smarter than a 9th grader. I would go higher, but, well, I am a 10th grader...
