Took a nasty fall on my road bike - huge hematoma on my left thigh. can't find much on the internet about what to do to help it heal, how long it takes, should i get it cut open and drained? Anyone out there, bikers, familiar with this type of injury that can tell me of their experience? should i be worried that my body won't re-absorb the blood and it will calcify? any info would be very helpful.

you should leave it alone. there isn't anything that you can do for it just make sure that it doesn't have any lines coming from it. the blood will get absorbed back into your body don't worry about it. crap happens. if the doctors didn't say anything then you are going to be fine. and if it still bugs you then you should go see another doctor.

If it's really "huge", maybe you should check with a doctor and be sure it really is a hematoma. It's possible that an injury to the bone might look to a layperson to be a hematoma. Heck, it might look like one to even a doctor's naked eye, but they have these gizmos that can look through your skin and see what's really going on.

See a doctor, and no, you didn't need me to tell you that, did you?

honey, the hematoma will eventually absorb into the tissue, it looks worse than it is..no you dont need to cut into it, that would cause chance of infection..i am glad nothing is broken, be patient, it will go away
