Most Common way to reduce size of files is zip
zip is a file ( like folder ) that contain many other files inside.
unzip means copy inside file into outside ( usualy right click and Extract... or double click and drag out files )

Often, to save space when emailing or preparing a file for download, the file will be "zipped" to save space. That means that one or more files are compressed together into a smaller file with the "zip" extension. If you "unzip" a file, it will simple extract the file(s) from the compressed zip file and change them back to their original form. You have to do that before you can use a file which as been "zipped".

If you received this file in an e-mail, make sure you know who sent it to you and why. Zip files are a favorite way to send viruses, etc. So before unzipping it, make sure that it is something you want to copy unto your computer.

Files are often zipped (compressed) to make them smaller to send. If you know the source of the file is reliable it is OK to unzip. If not, or you received it in an email (especially claiming to be from Microsoft, yahoo or msn, it won't be from them) DO NOT TOUCH. Contact abuse at your ISP if it was emailed. They will treat it very seriously, and confidentially. It's purpose may be to take over your PC, steal personal info, and set up monitoring of your use.
