If your doctor says you have a high blood pressure reading the first time, don't panic. Blood pressure can vary due to exercise or your body's response to the environment (e.g., temperature, stress). It is possible for blood pressure to be higher at the doctor's office due to anxiety and tension. This is commonly called "white coat syndrome." So it is important to know your regular, relaxed blood pressure by measuring it daily at home.
I would suggest monitoring yourself @ home before your doc. gives you any more meds.
What is your blood pressure reading?
Are you on a special diet, no salt?
Are you overweighed?
172 lbs. is a bit high for your height. Are you exercising?
Do you have any other illnesses?
Normal blood pressure is 120/80. Now, the medical profession wants us to be 110/70.
Our blood pressure does go up as we age but you seem to have other symptoms?
Check in with your doc. real soon.

I am a female, 77 years of age, 5'5", weigh 140 lbs. I am very active, dance 2 to 3 times a week, play golf 2 times a week, ride a recumbent bike twice a week. My blood pressure has always been low but recently has been running about 170 over 73, pulse rate of 66. Do I need to take medicine?

The measures for this have recently changed, but over 40 your B/P:140-80 or below is best. If you are exhibiting these symptoms still after being on the medications for at least one week, consult your M.D. There are so many blood pressure medications out there and unfortunately they don't come in a "one size fits all package", which means since we are all differant and can suffer from high blood pressure for differant reasons, there are differant pills to suit these individual reasons, so please don't fail to ask your doctor to switch you to something else if the week time period has elapsed. You want your B/P down, of course, but you also want to feel good too!! Good Luck!!

The blood pressure is good as is the pulse rate. The frequent urination could be an indication of the onset of Diabetes. It couldn't hurt to go have some blood work done just to make certain that is is not an indicator of something more serious. Yvonne
