The End of the World as We Know It!!!!
Ok, that said, nothing is anymore likely to happen in 2012, especially December 21, 2012 than on any other day. There have been long standing rumors floating around the world and through cyberspace that give a lot of credence to this looming catastrophe.
The date I gave is the end of the Mayan Calender. Only it would start over again with year one of the 5th (6th?) cycle. Maybe that indicates the date when the last full blooded Mayan dies. There can't be many of them left as the Aztecs and Spanish did a pretty good job of wiping them out or interbreeding with them. Assimilation into modern Mexico will be complete.
2012 is also often given as the date that the last Pope dies or all Christianity (Catholiscism) ends. I myself am a Christian, but I don't think the fall of the Pope's is going to affect my relationship with God that much.
Ireland is supposed to fall into the ocean thereby creating massive tsunami's around the world and trigger the end of days causing the poles to flip and land to become sea and the sea to become land....
Ireland isn't likely to sink, and definitely not fast enough to cause such disaster. Being a small and relatively flat land, it won't have nearly the impact people think it should. It would be a catastrophe if it did happen, but not Earth shattering.
Poles flipping? they do it at fairly regular intervals. that is part of having a spinning Iron core that isn't alligned perfectly with the Earth own rotation. The geological record shows this happens quite frequently, and remember, we are talking about the Magnetic Poles, Not the actual orientation of the Earth. We might have to get use to reading our compasses backwards, but hey, that isn't too big of a deal.
I think I covered most of the major threats, (forgot the Hopi Indians, they are on a similar cycle to the Mayans.) It seems to me to be a lot of hype over little substance

According to the Bible codes the Yellowstone Caldera will blow around September of 2009 thru 2010 supposedly for around a year. If that happens than the date of 2012 being any kind of rapture sounds way too late. Maybe that's how long it takes to get to the other planet. " And I saw a new world coming because the old one had passed away." The Mayan it would seem had this advanced knowledge shown to them by a more advanced or extraterrestrial origin. According to the History channels documentaries version of the Mayan legend; this blond or yellow haired individual with piercing blue eyes and an elongated head went back to the sea where he came from but, promised he would eventually return. I wonder if he had a USO? 2012 or 2013 might be a new beginning for the earth but not necessarily for most of mankind. Where will you go in 2009?

There's no disaster predicted. All the chicken little's have assumed that since the Mayan calendar ends there, the world will end. That's probably the 12,001 th time it's been predicted. The Mayan Old Era calendar runs out then and they had such a vision of future events that they never saw they would get toasted and never got to do the New Era calendar.
I have a calendar from Barnes & Noble that runs out in Feb of 2008. Maybe I sould start a rumor that the world will end then.

The unprecedented year of 2012 will mark the end of all human waste and perversion, starting with all of those filthy rich monkeys who will be the last to know what {GRACE} is really about. In other words, the T.I.M.E chart will not be carried on anymore due to those {MARTIANS} coming out in plain view, now ask yourselves, how many times has Mr. Georgie Bush been to New Mexico to greet the new species who will become our newly elected leaders in the thirteenth inning???

Look at the remnants of the Mayan civilzation now. Do you really think they could predict anything? We've got to get over this supersition nonsense.

Nothing. It's the year the Mayan calendar restarts. It's a cyclical calendar. People are WAY to superstitious.

Polar ice caps melting while the Midwest's worst snow storm on record melts causing the Mighty Mississippi to flood to triple it's current width which in turn destroys many, many cities depending on it for commerce.
