A co-worker believes that the blacks had it worse. She mentioned something about get beat more, tar and feathering, getting hung, sold, raped, beaten, and having to take care of the people that did the above.

Whereas the jews had a place to live, they got fed, they were gassed or shot so torture wasn't an issue, many found their families again, etc.

what's on your mind?

their is a clause in some states that any business where any owner/stockholder had ancestors that were slave owners can not do business within the states government.

There are many laws that have compensated the blacks as have done the jews.

but that is another question

E. CERTIFICATION REGARDING SLAVERY ERA BUSINESS

The Disclosing Party has searched any and all records of the Disclosing Party and any and all predecessor entities for records of investments or profits from slavery, the slave industry, or slaveholder insurance policies from the slavery era (including insurance policies issued to slaveholders that provided coverage for damage to or injury or death of their slaves) and has disclosed in this EDS any and all such records to the City. In addition, the Disclosing Party must disclose the names of any and all slaves or slaveholders described in those records. Failure to comply with these disclosure requirements may make the Matter to which this EDS pertains voidable by the City.

this is the clause used in most government contracts.

ps. why are you calling me names? I don't remember saying anything derogotory to any one else here.

ignorant cow, just cause I wanted to know the opinion of others. I never thought of the two in comparison until my coworker brought it up. I also thought the idea was absurd. sorry to ask for ideas in understanding her notion.

There is no way to compare the feelings and thoughts of these people who perished in that life. I believe all of it was horrific.

The whole question of who had it worse is appalling yet is strangely asked a lot--especially when blacks and Jews get together, in my experience, and it invariably results in the world's saddest argument. There's only one right answer: it's not a contest, and you can't quantify human suffering. Also, keep in mind that during the Holocaust, those who were kept alive in concentration camps WERE slaves. They spent their days doing slave labor for Nazis. And keep in mind that in the North Atlantic slave trade, killing was inherent to the trade, with people being kept in such conditions that it was a given that a certain very large percentage were going to die, so you can't say that the killings weren't purposeful or deliberate. As for your comment about how it seems like everyone forgot the horrors of the Holocaust, and that you never hear how bad any Jew had it... whu? You never hear? NEVER? If you never hear, then it's because you're not listening, not because it's not being said. I'm Jewish, and, well, it's not as if we have no history of complaining. Borders bookstore had a whole bookshelf on "Holocaust Studies". I mean, seriously, dude, I don't know where you're getting the impression that you never hear about Jewish suffering. Please, by all means, read up on Jewish history. Rent a few Holocaust-related movies. We've got a day of remembrance, Yom Ha Shoah. In 2012, it will be commemorated on April 18. Go check out some of the events.

That is an impossible question to answer. The blacks endured slavery for longer than the Jews endured the Holocaust; however, neither group should have had to endure these indignities at all. While you're at it, was it worse for the Jews or for the poor inmates at Manchuria's Unit 731, where the Japanese used human experimentation to test bacteriological warfare agents on Chinese, Russian, American, British and Australian subjects? What about the attempted genocide of Armenians in World War I? Man's inhumanity to Man is a thread of history. It should never happen, and yet it continues throughout time. The most shocking instances are usually during wartime, when governments feel that war is a license to suspend basic human rights. It is no use arguing over what atrocities were the worst ones--it is better to work to ensure that such evil behavior is learned from and not repeated.

I would have to go with the Jews during the holocaust.

Blacks used as slaves were exploited for cheap labor. Blacks were killed but that was a last resort because if you killed a slave, you would get no return on your investment. I am not trying to be crass, cut simply pointing out an economic reality.

The Jews were exploited and the Nazi's tried to exterminate a whole religion of people. They also were used as cheap labor. However they were starved, beaten, and humiliated until they were ultimately exterminated.

Keep in mind also that the holocaust was not only about extermination of the Jews. The Nazis also included other people that they considered "undesirable". This included Slavs, homosexuals, mentally retarded and mentally ill, crippled and sick people, and political dissenters.

Both are terrible events and they should never be forgotten.

Well, let's see...
You have to work very hard, every day, you're considered property, but you at least get to live w/ your families and know that as long as you follow the master's rules things may not be so bad...

Or, you can work hard every day, beconsidered a creature that is lower than a rat in the street, live in a concentration camp, be split from your family and not know where they are, or even if they're alive or dead, and know that no matter what you do, at any second they can just walk up behind you and shoot you, or round up you and 1,000 other people and throw you in a gas chamber.

She thinks only the black slaves got beaten, raped, tortured, etc? When slaves were no longer useful, they were sold elsewhere. When the Jews were no longer useful, they were EXECUTED.

6 million Jewish people killed for no other reason than being Jewish... Hmmm... I wonder who had it worse?

Are you really having a discussion about whether Jews in Hitler's era or blacks during the time slavery was legal was worse?

This is liking asking an anti-vivisectionist (or dogs and rabbits) which would be worse -- The Lethal Dose 50 test on dogs or the Draize Eye Test on rabbits.

Aside from some of your presumptions, which are incredibly naive and fact-starved, I'm not sure I see the point of your question and I'm not sure what even the most informative, objective answer would bring to bear on the much larger issue of man's inhumanity to man.

This just seems weird to me.

I don't see it as a rude question. What would be rude is ignoring the past, and pretending these terrible events didn't happen. They happened, and they are ok to talk about.

I would have to say Jews during the Holocaust had it much worse. They were being eliminated, and barely fed at all.

While black people did have it bad, as a whole they were only oppressed. Jewish people, as a whole were eliminated.

Both are beak times in the history of man, and we need to learn from the past so as not to allow such horrible things to happen again in the future.

I think, the Jews had it worse. I have seen real photos and have a friend who was in the Army and was part of the liberation of a death camp. Seeing the photos of skin and bone is pretty shocking, these were families in many cases.
The Jews were also used as slaves, beaten, raped etc, they
The bottom line is this, I wouldn't want experience either situation.

What do you mean torture wasn't an issue? Have you even read a history book? They weren't even fed! Millions were killed, I'm gonna go with the Holocaust being worse. I rather be enslaved my whole life , than taken from my home put on a train and immediately having my children gassed and then live months and years without food, hard labor and not to mention medical experiments done to me.

Why don't you just open up a history book, read all about both and decipher for yourself which is worst. Some people are not actually trying to go back into time to bring up horrible memories! Go to a history teacher or something if you're that curious!

Some people on this site talk about the most depressing @ss things! Girl go somewhere and get happy! Because obviously you have no life and you need something else to do!

I would have to say it was a nearly a toss up but their was so much genocide with the Jewish people that I think even the cruelty of it over shadows the horrible treatment of the slaves. One thing I must say though is Slavery was abolished in the mid 1800s and the African American people need to let it go, end the political correctness and double standards. It's over. If you take the high road, those who still hate you for your color will always exist but those who doubted you will respect you and live harmoniously.
