Well, there seems to be *two* versions.

One version for Turkish internal consumption says that there never was a Armenian Genocide (it was a "relocation"), and hence, no reason.

And another version for the rest of the world, that says that when Turkey went to war with Russia in 1914, the Turkish army was destroyed, and the Turkish government blamed the disaster on the Armenians living in the region for collaborating with the Russians.

Anyway from what I read I know that the main reason was the religious purge (of non Muslims) of Turkey.
