When ol' Supe was a kid he didn't know he had super powers then. So whatever was experienced then carried over in his subconsciousness, like avoiding a thrown object. A human thing to do.

Well, on the 1950's show which is the only place he showed that bizzare behavior:
In real life the actor did not want to get hit in the head with the prop gun.
How did I explain it away for the logic of the show?
If the gun hit Superman it could become damaged and make it harder for the police to obtain forensic evidence.

He's faster tan a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Nowhere in there does it say anything about guns flying at him.
