This is what Martin Luther King Jr. was talking about in his I have a dream speech? Is this what that whole movement was aiming to gain?

I don't think it was, I think when he was killed the dream he so desired went with him. It seems to me the black people and white people for that matter, have torn his dream and aspirations to shreds. I think he would be furious over the destruction of his culture/race by his own people.

Black people have to realize that it's not White people they have to convince that they are equal to us. It's themselves they need to convince. White people aren't the ones holding them back anymore, I hear more white people defending them than lashing out against them. The door is open, if they don't want to walk through it, it's only because they refuse to.

And this Imus issue has to open their eyes to see that it's their own race that is most critical of them, it's their own race who is murdering them in large numbers (gangs).

Rappers aren't all bad, but a lot of them promote the gang life and the use of derogatory remarks against women and other races. Which leads to the destruction of what blacks say they want.

crabby: Racism will never be completely dead!! But it's not limited to one race either, or not possible to be racist against your own race..

jahpson: No I wouldn't be offended, because I'm not those things.. I'd probably laugh at your ignorance and let you learn from your mistake.

Kelly B. I agree with you Parents should monitor what their kids do (I have 3 children) I do that to my kids.. I am what is considered to be a strict parent these days. When I was growing up it was the standard. But that's not the point of the question, It's not about what's good for just the children, but for everyone.

MLK would be in shock and dismayed espically with his napy haired Jessie Jackson, playing up how close he was then admitting later he had lied

Yeah Jahpson you could call her that and she would be offended but if you were a talk show host YOU could get away with it. That is the difference. It seems to be okay to trash white people. Want to be equal? Learn to take a joke. The whole show was based on making fun of people regardless of color. I have heard a lot worse about senators, preachers, the pesident and everyone else on that show. And if Imus was black and called Pat summit trailer trash, he would not have been fired. I totally agree with this question. Good job.

Agree to a point.

There is still plenty of white on black racism. Don't fool yourself!

Do you think black rappers would continue to use derogatory lyrics if their CD's didn't sell????

It will change when consumers change!
Considering mostly rebellious teenagers are buying this crap--not to mention the fact most of these consumers are white teenagers--racism and sexism sells!
The change will come when parents start paying closer attention and raising decent respectful children!
Children learn by example!

Martin Luther King Jr. was and is a great example of a leader. Not just to Blacks, but to all people. Bill Cosby is more concerned for the welfare of the Black community than either Jackson or Sharpton.

My feeling about Kings dream is that it was never allowed to grow. For a time, the black community was the victim of instituional racism. Those barriers are no longer there. The enforced segregation is gone. Unfortunately, the black leadership still sees the black community as a bunch of victims. They have not grown beyond victimhood into survivorship. Their victimhood prevents them from growing beyond their previous limits.

I fully agree and you are so right! I wish more people thought like you. The whole country in America is so divided by race and I really wish it wasn't that way. It kinda reminds me of what I saw on Oprah right after they announced the not guilty verdict of OJ Simpson. Half of her audience got up arguing with each other about how the jury came up with the verdict, talking all racial slurs and all that and the whites were arguing with the blacks. Imagine how Oprah felt.

Why can't we just shut up and learn to love one another, despite our skin colors? It's just a culture and color, god damn it!

The racist apologists for white trash like Inus are trying hard to excuse his behavior. Some of them are saying that it's really the fault of black people.

And they are right. After all, why should a black woman who is a star athlete and a top student (or she wouldn't be at Rutgers) be offended when an ignorant redneck calls her a whore? How unreasonable. Next thing you know she'll be want ing to sit at the front of the bus like real people!

Racism is not dead--as Inus has proven. And like any bullies, he and his ilk are now whining because he got slapped down, as bullies always do.

i agree but it sounds like saying offensive words that hurt others are OK. if i called you a tired old cracker with your p*ssy hanging on the floor, would you be offended? yes, black people need to uplift each other and bar from the degradation but EVERYBODY not just blacks need to understand that name calling doesn't solves anything.

we teach our children that way why cant we be living examples?

I think there are many African Americans who have dealt with racism that exists even today who would disagree with your statement.
