1996 Dodge Intrepid, Im actually getting rid of it here in the next two months and buying my first new car. A friend of mine promised to do all the work on it to get it ready to give to my little sister....So we are doing a ball joint and a wheel bearing, and a tune up... in which he told me to get a new distributer cap... Ok, I am a girl, but I looked under the hood of my car and I don't see one.... and I can't find one in the parts book either... she doesn't have one does she?

It doesn't have one. You have a solid state distributor block that performs that function and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you're curious about what it looks like though, find your spark plug wires and follow them back to where they all meet plugged into a rectangular block about 4" x 6".

procuring a used distributor cap is a pretend financial gadget, it won't final very long. The contacts interior would be worn (and worn in an incompatible way on your rotor arm), and the spring interior the centre touch would have lost its springiness. If the cap is on its way out then i'd advise changing the rotor arm and the HT leads on the comparable time.

Modern cars come with Distributorless Ignition Systems (DIS) They use a coil for each cylinder, ( or maybe 1 coil for every 2 cylinders ).

no, it doesn't have one. on this car each spark plug has its own coil on the spark plug boot at the top. if you notice at the top of each plug boot there is a wire plugged into each one, that would be the coil. this is a distributorless motor. take it to a mechanic and don't let your friend "fix" it especially if your sister will be driving it. good luck.
