The English alphabet order probably follows the Greek alphabet - I can't say this with certainty, but just guessing!

The two symbols > and < [ or ) and ( ] when joined together would resemble the letter x. These symbols closely look like the lips of two kissing persons, and this could be the reason that x stands for a kiss!
Batteries contain certain chemicals whose reaction generates electricity. Like any man-made item, these too have a definite life. After the capacity to generate electricity gets diminished, the batteries cease to work and so 'die'.

X for a kiss? Because it says SMACK.

Batteries are a limited time of work like running out of gas.

Alphabet? That is a good question.
