It really depends on how good you are programming in Java and what kind of game want to develop.

Java needs a virtual machine to run on any platform and every major (even minor) operating systems have a virtual machine. This is considered a hinderance because virtual machine needs memory.

It has lots of API's that provide features (might not be all) that are provided by OpenGL and such. openGL is a lot harder to understand and program. It has a lesser developer community compared to Java and developer community really helps when you are beginning to learn.

I would not say there is a higher programming language. Visual Basic is lovely well, nevertheless it does not get you familiarized with whatever past fundamental programming ideas. C# and Java are situated at the equal concepts, however Java is extra transportable as it really works on any running method, even as C# will paintings handiest on Windows. However, the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) you may have for C#, Visual Studio, is obviously ideal to make use of. I'd propose studying both Java or C#. Once you recognize considered one of them, it is effortless to gain knowledge of different different. Good Luck!
