I'm on the decorating committee for a formal banquet and the theme is Under the Sea.

Consists of decorating the walls, around the dance floor, a small stage, ceiling has rafters, and tables.

Have any original ideas?
Or any ideas at all?

Fun! Under the sea is coral and wavy plants, plus interesting shipwreck/treasure scenes. Are you allowed to tape anything up on the walls? Maybe you could do textured walls with butcher paper and oatmeal painted to look like coral, with fish and sharks swimming past.

If you can, have a slide projector that will send waves of color theough the room.

Can you borrow some steamer trunks and have mardi gras beads and fake coins spilling out?

Maybe some helpers would be willing to dress like mermaids and mermen?

You could tape up some trash bags and stuff them with newspaper, to look like octopusses.

I'm not sure on the whole room but as table centerpieces you could put the small bowls with Beta or goldfish and wrap some Ivy around the bottom of the bowl or decorative rocks. This was done at a reception last summer and really looked nice.

My niece just had a beach wedding theme. We cut foam swimming noodles in half lengthwise into different lengths. We then ripped the edges a bit to make them look rough and to round the tops. We used every color we could find and taped them to the walls for "coral" The table centerpieces were clear glass bowls and vases. We poured about an inch of builders sand in the bottoms, dropped in a few seashells, filled almost to the top with water (tinted with blue food coloring) and put a floating candle in it. We cut light blue bridal netting into 2 yd lengths and bunched it around the centerpieces, and sprinkled shells all over the tulle and the table.
