I really want your opinions and I'm seriously not trying to offend anyone.
Why is OK for African-American men to make dispariging remarks about African-American women? And it happens...I see it all time in songs, in person and on the radio. But when a white man says something demeaning, it becomes a HUGE issue. What is up with that?
(I'm not defending Imus - I do think he's an idiot and should never had said what he said but he talks crap about everyone - white and black, so what do people expect out of him?)

This can of worms was opened yesterday. I don't know why, it is alway wrong if a white man says it but okay otherwise. I don't get it.

It's not OK Honey, no matter how you look at it. White and blacks do it, no more than the other. In reference to songs, they are making money so they would talk about your mama as long as they are making that paper! So if you are a strong woman you move on and don't consider it a statement toward you. Woman who take offense 95% of them is in that bracket they are singing/rapping about. If you can't take the heat, mama always said stay out the kitchen. They are making money so the heat is comfortable for them. You actually have a lot of whites buy that music too and singing with their friends or by themselves. To me it's just entertainment. I don't condone bashing women rather white or black but I don't waste my time dwelling on it. In this world nothing is new, just a modern version. Beating of slaves, white men sexing the black slaves, to sneaking out paying for some black scussy, and going home like you been in a business meeting or working late. Now it's more open for them but does that make any of it OK. You could look at the myth that has been portrayed so long. Black women has it all breast, buttocks, some good spit for you. Once you go black you will never go back. White women is easy and will do almost anything. So if a guys wants something that they aren't getting they will go wherever they need to. If this Duke Lacross wouldn't have happened something else would have occurred to make people look at things in a racist way.

It's not OK. And women who put up with it are just making the problem worse. The most dangerous part of this music thing is that so many young men are emulating the rap and rock stars who sing this garbage and the music is actually influencing the way they talk to young women.

Don Imus thought it was OK to repeat what he's heard in popular culture. He is old enough to know better. What intelligent American adult doesn't know it's wrong to make racial and sexual slurs on public radio?

Imus needed to be fired. Imus is held up nationally as a political spokesperson. He often has political guests on his program and frequently has political discussions. He represents a white majority population that in the not too distant past, horribly repressed the Black population. To allow a man like Imus to promote racism on such a forum is to allow the potential for the abject racism and repression of our past to begin to creep back into our society.

Racism is a right-wing attribute (which is quite obvious on this forum) and Imus speaks to that audience. He knew his audience would appreciate those comments and he was more than willing to cater to their racist whims. A decent society must put a man like Imus and his right-wing Archie Bunker followers in their place.

Abuse is never OK, When you say offensive things, you leave yourself open for criticism. The more separation you have from the person you have offended, the more the potential you have to offend.
