The highest named number is actually a googolplex. It originally meant something like writing a 1 and then keep writing zeros until you get tired. This definition was later changed to be as follows:
googolplex=10^10^100=10^googol
A googol is actually a much smaller number obviously and is defined as follows:
googol=10^100
Edit: Noting the post above, the credit for both googol and googolplex is usually given to Kasner's 9 yr old nephew Milton.

The number 10^100 (1 with 100 zeros) is named Googol (and not Google!)
It is not really the highest named number, since googolplex is defined as 10^googol.

appeared in a fine book "Mathematics
and the imagination" by Edward Kasner.
According to Kasner, the term was coined
by a kindergartner. Kasner asked the
children: "Name the biggest number you
can think of". One of the children replied: "Googol".
BTW: 10^googol is called a googolplex.

bigger than google, is google plex. I think that it is an extra 100 zero's or somthing like that.
