On work/weekdays, I try to go to sleep by 9p and set my alarm for 3:45a ( I work at 4:45a). So that is between 6 and 7 hours. There is the occasional night where I may go to bed early or later, but I am averaging 6 to 7 hours. On the weekends, I usually wake up by 7a, no matter how late I stay up, I think my body is used to being awake early in the morning. I have heard as a person gets older, they need less sleep.
From what I have read, the following is a general guideline for sleep amounts by age:
AGE_____ HOURS
Birth-2___ 16+
2-5 _____ 12
5-12 ____ 10
12-15___ 9
15-18___ 8
18-50___ 6-8
50+ ____ 5-7
It has been shown that consistency is the key to being adequately rested. You may be able to get by on 5 hours of sleep if you sleep the same hours every night I know if I get less than 6, I definately feel it the next day and I feel like I need a nap in the afternoon.

I get 8.
Pretty much all experts are in agreement that the necessary amount of sleep varies from person to person. And what is enough at one part of your life might be too much or not enough during another part of your life. That said, the range is usually between 6-10, so odds are you are NOT getting enough sleep to function to your fullest capacity and potential. Most people need at least 8 hours. It is also generally accepted that it is best to sleep more consistently. You will be most healthy if you sleep more than 5 hours a night, and sleep the same amount at approximately the same times EVERY day, even the weekends.

Depends. Last night I got six, most of the time I get about 7 or 8 which is supposedly the average you're supposed to get a night.

It depends! I usually get anwhere from four to eleven hours a night! Studies show you should get about seven hours of sleep a night to lead a healthy life.

We are all different and need different amounts of sleep, but with medical studies they have said that you need more than 6 hours a night.
