there are situations in replacing a hard disk drive. First situation if ur old hard disk is connected via parallel ribbons and ur buying a motherboard that does not accept parallel hard disk drives only SATA drives, then it's time to replace ur HDD. If the motherboard u r buying still has a peripherals for a parallel HDD then don't replace ur drive just reformat it and ur good 2 go.

Not really unless your hard disk is broken or you are using SCSI hard disk and purchasing IDE/SATA motherboard or vice versa. Should that be the case there is always add-on card you can buy.

There are also few other things to consider before you replace your hard disk. Storage space is the main consideration but it really depend on what you want to do once you upgrade your computer.

When you can afford it, buy a faster one to get the full benefit of the other upgrades. You may want more RAM too.

it depends on how old is your PC........
but generaly no, because the os will recognise the new components and find drivers for it or just install drivers with the mainboard CD
