Leadership? No, their ONLY concern is the bottom line. Sponsors pulled out. Had CBS illustrated any leadership at all - they would never had allowed such crap to begin with.
Hopefully tho--this will mark the beginning of a new era in broadcasting,,,,,,,,,how about we quit degrading women and minorities-stick to the issues and bring back some decency?

While I don't like Imus, or Stern, or Limbaugh, I think CBS basically said that they don't believe in or support free speech. They didn't support their employee, nor stand behind his constitutional rights. As a private company, they make decisions for themselves, and they have to live with the consequences of such decisions. I wonder if they would have fired Al Franken, who I also really dislike?

No. They showed that they are hypocrites. He has made similiar statements many times with no ill effects. They should have either done something before, or stood behind their broadcaster. They only fired him for PR reasons. In doing this, they showed that they are not willing to stand behind their employees who get bad press, but that anything you do that is ignored is ok.
As for freedom of speech-it doesnt apply. By working for them, he represents them. If they do not agree with what he is saying then they have a right to remove him from the station-they have free speech too. He cant force his opinions onto their network. However, they still have an obligation to say something in the begining, not just when it hurts them with bad press.

No, they simply proved they do not believe in the constitution RIGHT to free speech, and that is pretty sad. If they had waited two weeks Imus would be making more money for them than ever and this would have all blown over.
I don't really like Imus, but unless we step up in cases like this and say "STOP!" to race baiters like Sharpton and Jackson, our country will continue it's slide into the PC abyss.

Yes, Imus deserved to be fired. What more can be said. There is no way to support Imus in any way on this issue.

No, they demonstrated their cowardliness, but in a way you can't blame them, I for one would not want to face a widespread attack from the Big Bubba Bigots---(Al Sharptongue, and Messe Jackass...) the unconstitutional ACLU, NAACP, and radical gangs of liberal lunatics:( but the worst of it all is the fact that our 1st amendment rights now only apply to self victimizing worthless low down lazy liberalitis infected morons:(

They took too long to fire him. A sportscaster would have been off the air in about 7 seconds for making such remarks.

And Al should be fired from his radio show, since he's always been a known bigot. Mc Donald's and K-Mart should pull their ads and all the others too.
