Miami is technically a part of the state educational system of Ohio, but it is the most selective part. The students there are definitely above the average for Ohio schools and the campus has a lot of different intellectual activities. It is definitely not a big sports school and no one ever got turned down from admittance because they didnt do sports!
The campus is quite pretty, especially in the fall when the trees all over the place are colored. The town is rather small and a little isolated. If you had a car you could go into the city, but otherwise you would have your social life and do everything on campus, which I think would keep you pretty busy.
I think Miami is more highly respected than Akron and would further your career more. You would get a good education at Miami.

I'm at Miami right now and I HATE it. I won't go into all the details because it would be way to long, but I can answer your question about the music department. I'm not a music major, but I play the harp and I've run into a lot of problems with the dept. If you play a more mainstream instrument you'll probably be ok, but I wasn't even allowed to try out for the orchestra. I don't know how Miami's program ranks, but I do know the administration has been taking money from the music department over the past few years. My teacher says that all the practice rooms are going to be moved to some other building. I know Miami is probably more respected than Akron, but my experiences there have been less than satisfactory. Seeing as their music program is dwindling, I'd suggest you find a better school.

I applied to three schools when I got out of High School and Miami (Ohio) was one. I got in two (Iowa State, and Illinois Institute of Tech.) but I was put on a waiting list for Miami because I wasn't a sports star. This was back in 1995. I wouldn't go there because it seemed they only cared for the sports programs, but that is my personal view.
If I were you I would look at their Music programs see which one fits you the most and make your choice. You'll know if it's right for you no matter if its Miami or Akron.

haha. As you are able to locate, OU human beings get great salty while this style of question is posed. I went to Miami. i did not pop my collar. I wasn't in a frat. i don't shop at J group. i don't have a BMW. i'm not a pretentious *** hollow. maximum of those arguments are regurgitated statements that they've heard for years with out relatively ever experiencing what Miami is like for themselves. the reason that Miami human beings have much less responses on your question is as a results of the fact they don't likely provide a **** relating to the full OU/Miami opposition. OU human beings will say that's us being uptight, wealthy, entitled dickheads, yet they're incorrect. it is purely that Miami human beings love Miami and don't sense the might desire to pass on the offensive to hate on yet another college. Many Miami human beings will say that OU is only jealous. on an identical time as some might have self assurance that, maximum say this to get an improve out of OU pupils/grads. Are there douchebags at Miami? sure. Are there douchebags at OU? sure. the point of hate is truthfully weird and wonderful, and it comes for the period of as lack of self assurance. in actuality that I even have spent assorted time at OU, and that i've got had some sturdy circumstances there. i don't hate OU, and in case you chosen to pass there i would not say you would be making a mistake. once you pass to college the secret's to locate a team of pals which you're happy to affiliate with. i replaced into in a position to do this at Miami very actual, and had the best 4 years of my existence there. honestly, you're in no way going to get an un biased answer to this question. My concepts are the Miami is a extra powerful college (scores might additionally propose that). The partying is on par with OU (that's much less stressful to have a sturdy time once you truthfully pass to the college). Miami's campus is extra powerful finding(my opinion). activities at the two faculties are basically on par once you look traditionally, different than Miami's hockey team is often a countrywide participant, and that's the sport which maximum pupils care approximately. i might %. Miami all day, regular, off digicam, each and every way. Queue the OU haters.
