Imus was fired because advertisers were leaving in droves. It was a purely business decision. Imus has been spouting racist and banal crap for years.

A sportscaster would have been fired on the spot, IMHO.

NO, it was the hue and cry from people like Sharpton and his ilk that kept on highlighting the speech and this is what made the advertisers leave. However, they are a bunch of hypocrites because they STILL advertised on Rush Limpbaugh's show even after his comments, which were highly offensive, about Michael J Fox and his Parkinson's disease.
His radiothon yesterday in a five hour period raised $1 million for charity. It will be continuing today but his wife will complete it. The sportscaster would have been canned.

Greg Gumble still has a job two years after his comments that white people aren't real atheletes.

But it is apples to oranges as Imus is (oops WAS) a shock jock. He has had this coming, it was only a matter of time till he did something so over the top stupid.
