No, you would buy a GPS that plugs into a laptop. Many now come with a USP port, so it can plug into your computer.

Just maybe you should visit a retailer that knows about these things. You obviously need personal assistance. One reason that retailers are disappearing, is that people will ask questions in the store, then buy from a competitor on-line to beat the price... is that somehow fair? Just maybe the retailer should SELL FIRST, then answer questions.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Microsoft Streets & Trips 2007 (not 2006) with GPS.

I bought mine a few months ago for $130 CAD and it's awesome! The GPS receiver just plugs into USB.

It is possible yes. USB devices such as http://www.bytefusion.com/products/op/usb-gps/usb-gps.htm should work with no problems on a Windows XP laptop.

You will also need some map software - such as TomTom or similar. Once installed its pretty simple to use.
