We went on a great day out in Liverpool, visiting some of the places made famous from Beatle songs, as well as spending time near the River Mersey.
Beatle Songs & places :Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane - easy to get to from the city centre. Easy to get some photo's, don't know if the Strawberry Fields sign is still there, we got some photo's of it.
Other Beatles sites: http://www.beatlesstory.com The Beatles Story museum. Worth a trip first, to catch up on some of the history and connections. There are also bus tours, I think still running, if you're visiting without a car, though this was quite expensive, when we were there.
The Cavern Club is in the city centre too.
Otherwise, take the ferry across the Mersey, and visit the Albert Docks (where the Beatles Story is located). A good place to eat and spend some time. See the Liver building, just back from the river.
Don't forget the city centre, with tons of shops, restaurants and pubs - and get to meet some of the locals, famous for their character and humour. You'll have a great time.
Good luck! Rob

Hi Big Friendly Giant,
What a lovely idea to come to Liverpool, that's where I live and its great.
Sounds like you may be best going to the Albert Dock, that's home of the Beatles's museum, it costs £9.99 for adults and £6.99 concession, the web site is www.beatlestory.com. Also on the Albert Dock is the Merseyside Maritime Museum, that's free to get in and very interesting as Liverpool was a port and I really enjoyed it when I went.
Also from the Albert Dock is the yellow duck, something I think you may enjoy www.theyellowduckmarine.co.uk have an amphibious tour, lots of fun!
Anyway now to the food, there are loads of places to eat down the Albert Dock, Est, Est , Est is Italian food, there's the famous Blue Bar (where the footy players hang out) Pan America, just to name a few.
So hope that's been of some help and have a wonderful time what ever you do!

Go to the City centre, there is everything you ask for plus lots and lots more. The Beatles Museum is on the Albert Dock, few mins walk from centre, straight up the main shopping street, straight onto the dock road, anyone will tell you where it is. It is the Capital of Culture, you will enjoy.

If arriving by train, as you leave Lime Street Station , the first view you get is the magnificent St Georges Hall. Behind it is the Liverpool World museum and the Walker Art Gallery. That's nearly a day to see proper in itself.

You have to try the Yellow Duck Marine, its a cheesy tour bus thing that turns into a boat and it goes round the tourist places in Liverpool, then goes actually into the docks and is quite fun for the whole family!
