If you talk to an American, ask them how was your day, they will say "oh it was awesome". How was the movie? Oh the movie was awesome. How was your vacation? It was awesome. What do you think of my girlfriend? Oh she is awesome. They are so awesome that they can't have a second word to describe anything.

as an American , ask us about taxes ; or our politics , or how you can be fired for a comment , after an apology; etc etc ; plenty of things that you won't hear awesome; just a current adjective , like cool or in the sixties, far out man etc ; can you dig it ; awesome sounds better to me

that reminds me of my holiday in New York
me and my family went to planet Hollywood (as you do)
get a table, sat down, looked through the menu and then the waiter came a long, and asked us how we were, we answered in the typical English way 'we're fine' and he replied with an question
'are you guys from the UK?'
we replied 'yes'
and then he said in the most camp and American accent possible 'AWESOME'
it was very funny
but anyway back to the question i think its because their vocabulary is so restricted 'by their stupidity', so really they're a bit like chavs
