Never trust anyone, especially in Iraq. What happens is that an Iraqi MP is assigned a couple or so of security guards, these guards are then bribed by insurgents either to kill the MP they're supposed to be guarding, as has happened, or else just turn a blind eye when someone walks in with a body bomb.

Apparently it is not too difficult. Anyone visiting the zone has up to 8 checks on their way in which should prevent intrusion if it applied to everybody. Most of the MP's and admin staff, civil servants etc. have passes which allows them full access without going through all the checks. All it needs is a corrupt worker to pass his credentials to a bomber or for a pass to be stolen or forged. The only true security would be by the most draconian measures of every body being strip searched,MP's Civil servants, men, women irrespective of their position. Whether this could be maintained is debatable. The reasons behind this bombing is to disrupt the democratic workings of the Iraqi government by the Shia clerics who do not want a democracy but a religious Islamic state ruled by the Imams and not elected members. It is all part of the world wide conflict between shia and sunni, and between moderates and fundamentalists.

Seems like the trust level is too relaxed. Surely they would suspect terrorists would try to enter the green zone. I thought they had bomb sniffing dogs - where were they?
