I feel very offended when someone does it to me. Ok if I give the wrong answer, but if youre just having a laugh or trying to help someone its different. We should be able to go round to their house and give them a thumbs up - up the a**

Why are you at all surprised by this? Just like having fanatics in every religion, you will also have fearful xenophobes willing to do anything to take the "other" down. Fact is, I'm giving them far more credit than they deserve. In truth, to give a thumbs down based on name alone is tantamount to disassociating yourself from anyone who is different from you in race an ethnic origin. That kind of activity is far from intellectual brilliance. It's the diametric opposite. Moronic in fact. All of us come into this plane of existence at various stages of development. We all must learn to live with those who are much further down the food chain - as well as those closer to the top. Hopefully, everyone will be aiming at moving a little higher on that spiritual ladder. Unfortunately, many do not.

I hear what you are saying and for the most part there would be less thumbs down. BUT I would still give a thumbs down to answers that I felt and believe were not accurate or outright wrong. I would not care if the person/people knew it was me that gave it to them. Good question tho.

Probably...I mean, they are still semi-anonymous, being online and all......I doubt they'd mind a nasty e-mail too much. Unless it's your contacts who are thumbing you down, cause that might be ackward. Besides, who's to say there's no reason. I think the only reason you really need is to disagree with the opinion in question, although I personally have only bothered to do so once, because why bother anyways? But then, why bother doing Y! Answers anyways, so I guess they might as well.

I would still give thumbs down to people, I thought gave bad answers. I guess it would interesting to see who gave you a thumbs down and I would like to know who gave me a thumbs up too. All though if you could see who gave you a thumbs down, it might start people giving each other thumbs down, and reporting each other for spite, instead of really basing their choices, based on the answers themselves.

Some people give the "thumbs down" just to vent their dissatisfaction with their own life onto the rest of the world. Being that you can set-up your profile with a flase name these people would still be the same ... I'm finding it difficult to not use the names I would like ... unpleasant figures that they are now.
In short ... if someone gives a bad reception to a good answer, I give them the right to be wrong.

I know what you mean. I get thumbs down sometimes for no reason at all. I don't say anything offensive or insulting and get thumbs down, so yeah, maybe. I'm thinking it may cause a lot of people to think twice about thumb downing.
Yay, thumb downs for me!! See what I mean? LOL

I would have no problem with people knowing who I give thumbs down to and why. Usually, it is because they use alot of vulgarity in their answers. I don't give thumbs down very often, mostly I give thumbs up.

I wish we could know who does it, because as soon as I barely write and hit the submit button a thumbs up usually appears. I think I have an enemy or two and don't know what I did to make them.

Probably not , I'll only thumb down if someone gives me a rude or offensive answer. That's fair I think?
