I live near the river. once i went there and started to stare at the sand, i saw some thin moving in there.i scooped it up and put it in a transparent bag full of water.a little, long creature about 5mmlong and 5-10 legs 0.8mm-1.8mmlong. it came out of the sand and buried itself in it. it was sort of transparent . im sure it is a kind of shrimp or kril. it looks a bit like brine shrimp but not exactly . would it be safe to feed it 2 my pet guppy fry? theres heaps of em krill on the sand, aprox1 per 6 cmsquared. the water is'nt dirty. i ocassionally see pufferfish and small fish in it. the water is brackish to salty.

krill, shrimp don't live in rivers

It could be shrimp or krill, the difference is the size, and shrimp live in salt marshes and salt rivers all the time. At the size, they are probably brine shimp.

However, I'd stick to feeding your guppy fry commerical livebearer food that you've crushed up (live bearer food is usually just ground krill and corn with tubiflex worms)

You could bring back bad bacteria from the river.

Personally, I wouldn't feed live-collected food to my pets. There's always a risk of introducing parasites or harmful bacteria. If you want to feed live food, hatch some brine shrimp. Buy a kit at the pet store and buy more eggs on eBay for cheap!
