TWO NOSES?

(lol)

We have two eyes for binocular vision - depth perception. This is because we are a predatory species and need to be able to perceive how far away our prey is.

We have two ears to take in sounds from both sides.

Humans, like all living species, have developed and adapted in conjunction with the demands of our environment.

Most animals, humans included, are bilaterally symmetrical. This means that their bodies are divided by only one plane, the sagittal plane, and each half is the mirror image of the other. Why did we come to be this way? Well, it is difficult to say, but there is much speculation surrounding it. For example, two eyes gives an organism binocular vision which is likely advantageous for avoiding prey. It also promotes cephalization, streamlining, and other advantageous nervous developments. (consult your encyclopedia for more info on this stuff)

Also, as a cool little side-note, while we all know that almost nobody is perfectly symmetrical (for instance, one of my nostrils is a little larger than the other) humans universally are more attracted to a person the more symmetrical their face is. Since this is a universal aspect of human attraction, it can be inferrred that symmetry is attractive because it is instinctively known to be advantageous!

Two eyes and two ears give us a three dimensional understanding of sights and sounds respectively. Nose we have only one each!!! Yes, we have two nostrils which help properly filter the air that goes in. These are not the case like two kidneys... these pairs are essentially functional requirements.

Two eyes for steroscopic vision...for locating things in a spatial context.
Two ears for the same purpose, helping to locate a sound through a form of triangulation.
One nose, two nostrils...so we can use one when the other fills up with, well, you know...snot.

2eyes to judge distance. It would be nice to know how far away the leopard is.

I only have 1 Nose

2ears to judge spacial direction If we can't see the leopard, it would be nice to know which way to run away to.

2legs to run while looking around
and
2arms to carry a weapon.

We have EVOLVED to survive in our environment. When the leopard was our worst enemy, the mutations that allowed us to survive, got passed on. Those mutations that didn't help us survive the leopard, got eaten by him, and went the way of all failures.

When the leopard stopped being our Nemesis, other survival mutations can into play. Face it, we are a species of mutants, successful mutants, but mutants none the less.

You mean-- Two nostrils?-- all human beings have one nose with two nostrils ( for better breathing faculty that controls heartbeat, blood circulation etc.,), two ears( for exercising better hearing faculty), two eyes( for better fact- finding vision) but of course, only one mouth( for speaking less and for controlled speech).
