I originally thought of copper sulphate as a reliable and cost effective way of achieving your objectives.

When I looked up the website below I found that there are zinc products that are also beneficial for controlling mosses.

It is well worth your while to check this site out as it appears to answer most,if not all, of your questions and provides some photos as well.

Fortunately the moss is quite easy to remove. Use a standard bristle scrub brush on a pole and push the brush down the roof to tear the moss’s shallow root system from the shingles. Do not brush up the roof as you might break the bond between shingle layers.

Note how the moss typically starts to grow at the top of the vertical slots between shingles. These areas of asphalt shingles are the last place water evaporates from a roof. Once the moss is removed, inspect these slots to ensure the colored ceramic granules are still in place. If the granules are gone and you see just the interior fiberglass mat of the shingle, your roof is well on its way to being replaced.

Seems the mas would insulate the tiles and protect roof. I think stringing a copper wire along the top of the roof so that the rain washes down is a deterrent to moss and mildew. Probably have to scrape it off first. Good luck

Why bother? I think moss on a roof looks nice, and does no harm. Just make sure the gutters are kept clear though. Using chemicals on a roof can damage the tiles, so it's safer to leave the moss where it is.

Moss holds water and gets between the tiles, during the winter the water in the moss freezes, and expands.
This WILL lead to the tiles cracking and becoming loose!
So anyone saying it," Looks nice", and, " its harmless", have moss between their ears!
You must scrape the moss off, and apply a moss killer, during dry weather, and re apply the killer again after a week!
Moss killers can be bought a your local garden centre.

You won't be able to keep it moss free because the moss growth is carried by birds. the tiny moss seeds get stuck to the birds foot and they settle on your roof and thats how moss gets there in the first place.

they do sell cleaners that work well most are gel form. the biggest thing is the damage of slipping off your roof while cleaning it, a scrub brush and water hose work best. after your done removing the growth attach a copper wire from one end of your roofs ridge to the other. each time it rains it will release some of the copper witch will keep it from regrowing back
