Solid fuel boosters are terrible polluters. Most liquid first stages are kerosene engines and don't burn nearly as clean as a gas engine with a cat. Hydrogen stages burn clean, but it takes a lot of electricity to make that hydrogen.

its basically a giant water vapor cloud there is no polution from the shuttle launch
