Given that it's a viable charity that involves children, and some of whom might witness the performance you might consider keeping it more on a G rated side of the scale.

Certainly there are dozens of fun pieces of work, such as contemporary musicals, and/or comedic bodies of work that a large general audience can get involved in. Keep it "LIGHT" might be a key, in this situation.

It's possible you might have permission to involve some of the audience, but that should be addressed with the school and Orphanage administrators first.

The "Theme" would be the piece you perform, and if you have a sense of the atmosphere of the rest of the event, build the thoughts for the play around that.

Sounds like an "Annie" or "Cats" situation, to me

Obviously a noble gesture, and one I wish you success in, and a serious situation to donate to, but remember to have fun as well.

I would suggest Annie based on the information given if you choose to do a piece that requires royalties. Tony and Tina's wedding is a good idea but a HUGE undertaking, especially if you don't have a large number of people (20+) with excellent improv skills.

A fundraiser we do here that is less expensive to put on (plays have royalties you know) is we have members of our community submit a proposal to write an original music review show. We choose a theme or a year, and then have an assortment of professional and amatuer singers and musicians perform, and there are hors dourves. I believe we get sponsors to cover the main costs of the show, and we do a couple of nights with 250 seats per night and we charge $20-30 for tickets. It's been a huge success.

A play that can be performed so that the audience is part of the production, like "Tony and Tina's Wedding."
