Just be honest about you wanting to be one. Why lie about something truthful? If they see that you dont own up to your comments, they may fire you. So the best thing to do is sit somewhere alone and think about this question. You may also want to think about the No Child Left Behind Act. You will definitely get a question like that too.

Do you remember your first "aha" moment? Do you remember the excitement in discovering the plot unfold the first time you read a book? There is nothing more exciting than helping your students achieve these moments of discovery. Teaching young children and young adults is immensely soul satisfying - it is intellectually challenging, no two children are the same and you have to prepare them for a world that is changing in the most unpredictable way. There is plenty of scope for your own growth as you can learn along with your students and develop a teaching style that suits your individuality. You have the affection of your students and an atmosphere that is based on cooperation rather than competition. The compensations are not monetary, but the joys of working with children make it worthwhile. All the best!

Look into your heart and really think about what lead you to choose a degree in teaching. You could have the "perfect" answer, but if it is not coming from your heart and they can't see it in your face, it will do you no good.

Was it a love of learning that you wanted to give to others?
An excitement over a certain topic that you want to share?
Inspire young people?
You had nothing better to do? (jk)
Remember... teachers teach children, not subjects!!

Seriously, dig deep inside and you will find that answer. And when you are talking to the principal or whoever, the excitement and the honesty will show in your voice, your mannerisms, and your face.
Good luck!!
