1s^22s^12p^1? Construct one orbital diagram based upon the configuration, and use this to explain your answer.

Is this a trick question? How do I find this information?

the rule states that the lowest energy level must be filled before moving on the the next level. in th case, the 2S level is not filled up with 2 electrons so it's a violation. when you make the diagram, you should see that the reason the electrons don't follow the rule is do to repulsion, and the distance btw. the electrons mitigates the tension. there are 2 other rules used in constructing configuration and this falls under the others.

I believe the answer is actually none of the above. This looks like it violates the Aufbau Principle, which states that electrons ALWAYS fill the lowest-energy orbitals first. However, keep in mind that one of the other choices might be simply another name for the Aufbau Principle. You might want to look that up. EDIT: Someone else answered while I was typing this and confirmed that the the Principle of Minimum energy (C) is another name for the Aufbau Principle

NO.It is not a trick Question . for elements with low Z you must fill first the shells and sub shells with the lowest numbers n and l

So you must have 1s^2 2s^2

The electronic structure which is written is an excited state
