Others learn best by being able to equate words and phrases in the foreign language with equivalent words and phrases in their own. Other people learn visually, so pictures and illustrations help. The best way to learn a language is to constantly practice. You can either study a book or if you work and you notice you have a Spanish speaking customer, practice with that person. Spanish speakers are generally very excited when an American tries to communicate with them in Spanish and in turn will try to help you. That's all I can think of.

Forget the theories, there is no one method. The way depends on you, but also you should not stick to one method or you will find that you end up with gaps in your language learning.

One simple way is try to make your sentences and express your own mind. Learn one sentence. Then vary it to express your own life.

Also find every opportunity to use it. Find a chat partner online who knows spanish or meet some local people as well.

For basics put labels all over your house in spanish. On your TV, fridge etc.

Don't worry or compare yourself to others. If you keep practicing you will find yourself getting better.

I live in China and my chinese is not that good, but compared to most Western foriegners in China much better, simply because I make a little bit of effort while most don't bother at all.

I love finding out new languages and utilising them with natives, i journey plenty and i have discovered kinda many, english, norwegian, swedish (they're virtually identical, and as i talk norwegian i appreciate additionally danish), french, spanish the ones are those i have studied.
