Hi Tiffy,
The first year of the A League saw Sydney FC and Adelaide take the top two spots. Seeing as this is our first year in the Asian Confederation, those two teams qualified to compete. Next year it will be Melbourne and Adelaide again. Whomever wins the top two places in the upcoming season will compete the following year. Nominations are placed before our season is complete and the winners known so the previous seasons winners are granted the spots.

Is Melbourne considered to be in Asia? I wonder if it would more appropriately be considered part of another area.
Not familiar with this sports league, but I do know there are two Melbournes. One in Australia and one in Florida.
