How long will it take for a person who is not a US citizen to study medicine in the US and finally become a neurosurgeon attending. Would it be possible for an international student with good grades to study in Harvard.

Medical schools at private universities in rhe US do accept foreign students.
Foreign students from non-English speaking countries must have an acceptable score on the TOEFL.
You will need a 4-year undergraduate degree
Four years of medical school
One year of internship
Seven years neurosurgery residency
More if you do a fellowship. Most neurosurgeons do. You certainly must do one if you have the ambition of being an attending.
That works out to about 18 years after high school graduation.
It's also REALLY expensive!
Good luck!

As far as how long it will take to finish college over in the states. It usually takes 4 years for medical school and thats going to school 3 semesters, summer, spring and fall. But after medical school you have an internship which usually takes about a year and then a residency which is totally different depending on what speciality you go into. Neurosurgeons probably takes awhile longer than say ob/gyn or pediatrition.
Yeah the biggest challenge is seeing what classes will transfer over to harvard in the states. Check out harvards website.. . probably harvard.edu... yeah thats the site... but you need to look at the prerequisates the school requires which are on this link below. Most schools accept international students. So its not much to be worried about, but you need to be sure you've taken these classes before sending in your application. Good luck.

O yea its damn hard to get in. They want no lower than 3.4 GPAs and with grade inflation from the top schools (meaning they bump up their grades) there are many graduatin high GPAs from college so competition is fierce. If you actully pass GPA threshold then interships will be helpful and extra activites. U also need to take the MCAT. I forgot the costs but each school is different but there should be and average cost on google or even on Y!A history. Even with all these its a nail biter. FML
