Somehow, Show them you care about them individually. Take notice of things that are unique about them. Especially what they are good at, like drawing or being a good friend. And just be real around them. Nothing forced.

Firstly be consistent.
Next, if you want students to listen you must get them to do things that they then enjoy. Then they will then listen to you to do things they don't enjoy.
Vary your activities, because students with different learning styles can then participate. For example, some reading, some writing, some talking to the whole class, some group work, some things that involve being active (depending on the size of the class and the topic you are teaching).
Respect students and make them feel welcome. Some of the worst students change totally when you let them know you want them in your class and you want to teach and help them.
Be patient, every teacher has this problem, don't worry too much.

well, you can talk to students about their career and important is to get good grades.
you can convince to study by telling them tecniques. for eg
-study half an hour then do something fun( repeat process)
-make flashcards, fun games that also can teach students things
-make some of the work group work so they are encouraged to participate and work
here's a website that is educational and fun:

good luck

try using applied education instead of rote memorization. For every subject there is a hands on approach to learning, where you are doing/making something instead of just reading about it.
