Why do they cradle the victim in their arms while crying instead of trying CPR?

Performing CPR on someone with a healthy, working heart is a very dangerous thing to do and can induce a heart attack. So there are serious health and safety reasons their. Secondly, not everyone know how to perform CPR, so depending on the character they may be uneducated in First Aid. Thirdly, the writer wants the person to die, they can be evil people at times.

I have seen some movies where they mimic CPR, not many. It is a very important thing to know and should be more common in movies.

reason is because people like to see the drama of someone holding someone who has died in there arms and crying. All the drama really brings in the audience. Cpr just doesnt draw anybody to the storyline. This is the number one reason because if cpr interested people hollywood would start doing it more often. just not a good attention gripper.

I've seen them try CPR on Law & Order and think it's ok. Otherwise, on other shows, CPR wouldn't make for good television.

I'm a CPR Instructor, maybe I am biased?

They do what advances the story line- dramatic death, successful CPR, unsuccessful CPR, murder attmept disguised as CPR...

What bugs me is the obviously fake and incorrectly done CPR when they DO show it. Same thing when they use the 'paddles' on medical shows the wrong way, etc. Annoying!

It's for a dramatic effect. It wouldn't be so dramatic if the victim lived.
