Well, it is very sexy. I don't think it sends any message about what kind of girl you are, personally. However, it might convey to someone that if you are serious about someone or marry someone that it would not be for visual reasons only. I had a very close friend that had her tongue pierced, and I am pretty sure she and her husband had no sexual contact until they married. However, if my wife got her tongue pierced, I would assume that she didn't just do it for me to look at. I hope that helps.

Unfortunately yes we do form opinions automatically. It's human nature, if anyone said they wouldn't in some way see you in a different light then they are probably lying. It's not that getting your tongue pierced is bad or immoral, but it will automatically set you up for good and bad reactions from those around you. It really depends on the group you hang around. Piercings and tattoos are much less taboo than they once were, but they can still make a person a reject in the eyes of some people, so best bet, wait and ask those you plan on hanging around how they would think of you getting your tongue pierced, even ask your parents if you have to {shudders} (just kidding). Remember think about why your really doing it, and if it still seems like it's for the right reasons go for it! Good luck!

Why would you care about what anyone else thinks, the thing is in your mouth and is not very noticable. Unless of course you have a big mouth or you want to be sticking your tongue out all day. If you REALLY want to get it done, get it done. I have mine done, so what "kind of girl" does that make me? It's really all up to you, don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Let me just tell you that the actual piercing procedure doesn't hurt, just a quick pain, but the healing process isn't so fun. Your tongue swells up for about 5-7 days after the piercing so you have to gargle a lot of mouthwash. Don't get the high percent alcohol mouthwash it can cause inflamation and infection. Plus when you eat you pretty much have to shove your finger in your mouth and put the food in the back of your mouth. It's a lot easier to eat soups, yogurts, oatmeals, anything with a soft consistancy. If you get it done, be sure to get a slushie afterwards.

I think it can definitely look good on alot of girls. Tiny nose rings are really hot, and some guys like belly rings, too. I don't think visually that you have to worry about it turning a guy off - they either care about it or they don't. If they don't, it really won't effect your appearance in a negative way.
As for what men might think of your attitude - I think you will be just fine. Most guys don't take the time to try analyze a girl's personality when they check her out. We aren't judgmental, and sometimes that can actually be a problem for us! When you talk to a guy he begins to judge what kind of a person you are. The way you act and carry yourself will also affect the way he sees you.
A tongue ring is just too small to really effect the overall picture a guy will have of you when he sees you at first. If he happens to like tongue rings - then you'll be more attractive to him. So there really isn't anything bad that could come from it - unless you find it uncomfortable. (The previous poster with the horror story is going a little overboard, by the way).
Alot of other posters seem to be saying that it sends out a huge message. Chances are, they wouldn't be thinking about what message it sends out if they saw a girl with one - it's just that you brought the subject up, so they are taking the time to analyze it.
I appreciate that you asked us men what we think first, though! If only every girl did that; then every girl at my U wouldn't be walking around in those bug eye glasses.

You answered it your self with,"That kind of a girl".everybody that has a tattoo went through those same thoughts. The only difference between those who get them and those that don't is time and common scenes. How some wish they had the common scenes first. I hope you wise up and see that an image is only one way of attraction and attention. Most men would be distracted by the metal in your mouth and others may think, I wonder what more this girl is willing to do. What you really need is people to finding out how interesting and beautiful you really are without fashion fads showing others what you really are not.

You said for "visual reasons only"...and I'm thinking about how close someone has to be to see it! Honestly, it's usually one of the last things I notice about a girl because I would have to stare at her too long to figure out if she has one.
But yeah, I generally form an opinion about a girl's habits when she has a tongue "ring". I mean...what do you think about if you see a guy with one? "why would he need that?"
If you want something cute AND noticeable get a little nose piercing, or your eyebrow to accentuate your eyes.

Nope. It depends on how you portray your tongue piercing that gives an impression. I'm sure that as long as you don't say "Hey look at my neat-o tongue ring" as you flicker your tongue back and forth rapidly or lick your lips , then you won't be as likely to get the 'bad impression'. Excessive calling attention to it will only make things worse. My wife has one and sometimes I forget she even has it because she doesn't do what I just said.

Overrated. Man, that's so 1990 something, & the ring isn't a place that can do anything worthwhile. A few of my girls had them, & after the chipped teeth & no better reviews in bed than before the tongue ring, the got rid of it. I don't know about boys, but I believe it would be the same experience as my friends.

This is just my opinion, but a tongue ring is unlike any other piercing (ears, navel, etc.)
With a tongue ring, be prepared
to receive lots of attention. If your attractive, fine
your used to it, ugly women, you might find yourself wanting to pull that thing off.

I would think negatively of the tongue ring. Infection of the tongue would be commonplace. It would be very disgusting too.
