I know what you mean. I just want to take a red marker to my computer screen and fix it all! LOL. The scary thing is when you see a person who can't spell, use punctuation, or even form a reasonable sentence, and they are talking about "oh mai gawd im pregent n i dunt no wat 2 du shud i hav a aborshun or wat my boifrend is a jerkk n i hate him...". I just want to scream sometimes! For god's sake! Stupid people shouldn't breed!!!

I think part of the problem is honestly laziness. I can understand frequent misspellings of certain words but I think individuals have learned to type phonetically (ha!) and really don't care one way or another what others think of their spelling. Then there's also the possibility that people are just incapable of spelling correctly, or at least the majority seem to be. Maybe the sudden advancement of the internet and the ever growing idea of 'immediacy' has diminished the need to know proper spelling and punctuation. It's frustrating though.

People hardly ever spell things right online, don't be upset. I hope that people can spell better than they let on, but try to understand also that most people are just trying to type as fast as possible while still preserving readability.

I would be more concerned about people's severely stunted vocabularies. For example, when I was in English class last semester nobody knew what the word "prophylactic" means...in college.

Well it happens. We live in a world where we have become dependent of machines to do all the dirty work for us. So when we perform tasks such as typing and spelling without the magical gift of spellcheck we show how we have become dependent on technology to do our task for us. Or it could be the fact that we are in a "RIGHT NOW" era and we prefer fast timing over perfection.

If lousy spelling is really the ONLY thing that bothers you on this site, I wonder what the REST of your priorities are??! The sad reality IS, there are a LOT of stupid people in the world- & poor spelling is one of the lesser symptoms of it. What a person is SAYING is more important- than how a person spells it. -Don't you think??? Don't sweat the misspelled stuff. It could be worse. :)

its the age of technololgy. Most kids these days text or im each other so they're shortcuts to having to spell everything out. Its our current day slang (and it's only going to get worse).

Internet, e-mail, IM, cell phones, people don't read a lot, speed equated with efficiency, standardized testing in schools...just to name a few possible reasons... :-)

They read less. They watch TV more. And they keep on texting and, in the process, murder the English language.
