i hope this isnt a dumb question but i've always wondered this. In tv movies an actor might say "shyt" and they edit it to sound like they're sayin "shoot" or "snap".
it sounds exactly like the actor said it himself. so can someone please explain with great detail how this works.
Thanks.

The process is called dubbing, used when audio editing is needed to make a film more "TV friendly". Voice impersonators sometimes are used; other times, the actual actors themselves will lend a hand. In the day, it was so easy to spot an dubbed moment.

But today's cool whiz-bang sci-fi style techonology ( due in large part to Lucasfilm, Inc. ) now makes dubbing a breeze--where they can now even sync-move the actors' lips as well as interject the new words/phrases---and you'll never see it comming!!

They have voice artists shorten the word or change the speed, frequency,or depth. Also they sometimes redo the audio with the same actor.

They take a different word and dub over the original. How in the HELL could you not have figured that out?
