I train on everything but my stomach, will training my stomach by doing ab workouts help improve your vertical jump? Also anybody know of basketball coach workouts if they emphasize ab workouts? Also how often is strength training emphasized when it comes to basketball workouts? Not much or a lot? Won't too much strength training slow down basketball players?

Not as important as leg strength.

no strength training will not slow down basketball players. you just have to do the right kind. High reps with a lighter weight. Do things like push ups to, squats are really good to help with speed if done right, if done wrong then u can hurt ur back, calve raises are also another really good thing to do to help ur speed and vertical. And for the answer about abs its not a major part but it can make a little difference, most basketball teams ive seen do some kind of ab work out

Well abs are a factor in pretty much every physical activity, so I think they would affect your jump to. Not as much as calfs of course, but strong abs are good in general. Workouts in basketball are not as emphasized as much as sports like football, but strength definitely plays a huge role in basketball. Too much strength training might slow you down, but you would have to do a lot. Keep pumping the iron.

It's all about your lower leg muscles, like calf muscles. They control the spring you get when you jump.
